Artist Statement
With my art I like to give life to new visual concepts by combining elements
such as clay, glass, minerals, canvas, color, fire and water. The world
is a mass of color and texture, and nature is the foundation beneath all
my artwork. I aim for my artwork to be thought provoking and to evoke
new feelings and emotions. I do this by combining iridescent, gloss, opalescent,
and textural acrylic mediums with vivid color schemes to my paintings.
Using the organic shapes found in nature as inspiration, I hand build
pottery and fuse them with glass to add to each painting. Combined with
the glass and glaze, I also use minerals, metals, and other things to
my kiln firings to achieve the color and textures on each original piece
of pottery. I constantly experiment to create new shades, inspiring color
combinations, and unique textures to express a particular mood, idea,
or design. It is my goal to inspire the viewer to want to come back and
take another look. - to consider where that piece of art takes them.
Biography
Kayla has been creating art for as long as she can remember and is now a
full time artist. As a junior high art teacher she experimented with fusing
clay and glass together. When she had the opportunity to stay home with
her toddlers in 2006, she continued to experiment and create hand built
glazed pottery fused with glass. Combined with her love of painting, she
now creates organic, colorful, heavily textured and sometimes iridescent
mixed media work.
